OIL CHANGE IN COLORADO SPRINGS

Six thousand feet of thin air, mountain grades on Ute Pass, and winters that swing forty degrees in a day β€” Front Range driving is hard on oil. We change it properly, with the right filter and the right weight, and we look under the car while it's up there.

About Oil Changes at Iron Horse

Colorado Springs is not easy-mile country. Climbing out of downtown toward the Broadmoor, pulling a trailer up I-25 to Monument Hill, or running Highway 24 west past Manitou puts your engine under sustained load at altitude, where there's less air to work with and oil temperatures run higher than the sticker on your windshield assumes. Add cold winter starts in Briargate and Falcon, where the thermometer can sit below zero at 6 a.m. and hit fifty by afternoon, and short in-town trips that never fully cook the moisture out of the crankcase β€” oil here ages faster than the label suggests.

That's why we care which oil goes in. Modern turbo four-cylinders and direct-injection engines specify thin synthetics for a reason, and putting the wrong weight in one is a quiet way to buy trouble later. We use what the manufacturer calls for, replace the filter every single time, and torque the drain plug by hand so the pan threads survive the next hundred services.

The other half of the job is the part most quick-lube bays skip: actually looking. A car on our lift gets a walk-around underneath. That's where we find the seeping rear main, the CV boot that's been slinging grease, the brake line starting to scale from years of magnesium chloride off I-25. Finding it at an oil change costs you a conversation. Finding it on the side of Powers costs you a tow.

On cost β€” a synthetic-spec service costs more than a conventional one, mostly because the oil itself does, and larger trucks and diesels take considerably more of it. We'll tell you the number before we start, and if your car genuinely runs fine on conventional, we'll say that too.

We're about 40 minutes down I-25 from Colorado Springs at our Pueblo shop, and plenty of Springs drivers make the run because they'd rather have the same crew that handles their real engine work handle the routine stuff too. Call or text (719) 240-3165 and we'll get you on the schedule β€” most oil services are in and out the same visit.
