Do not pay for a brake fluid flush every time you do pads. Fluid flushes matter when moisture content exceeds 3%, which typically takes 3–4 years in Pueblo's dry climate β€” considerably longer than the 2-year interval most shops push. A $12 test strip answers the question in 30 seconds. If your fluid tests under 2%, decline the flush and save $110. Do not spend money on ceramic pads for a work truck. Ceramics are quieter and cleaner, and they cost $40–$70 more per axle. But they have a lower thermal capacity ceiling than good semi-metallics. If you're towing a trailer down from the Wets or hauling loaded on Highway 50, semi-metallic pads are the *better* part and the cheaper one. Ceramic is the right call for a commuter that never sees a grade.

And plainly: if a shop quotes you brakes but you came in for something else, ask why. Brake work is the single most commonly upsold service in this industry. A legitimate recommendation comes with a measurement, a photograph, or a physical demonstration of the worn part. "Your brakes are getting low" is not a recommendation. It's a sales line.

The Failure Modes Nobody Puts in the Quote
