CV AXLE REPAIR IN PUEBLO: WHY YOUR CAR CLICKS IN TURNS
That clicking sound when you turn out of your driveway isn't your imagination, and it isn't something to ignore. Nine times out of ten, it's a worn CV axle β one of the most common repairs we see at Iron Horse. The good news: caught early, it's a clean fix. Here's what's actually going on under your car.
What a CV Axle Does
CV stands for "constant velocity." Your CV axles transfer power from the transmission to your front wheels while letting them turn and move up and down over bumps at the same time. Each joint is packed with grease and sealed inside a rubber boot. That boot is the weak point β when it cracks, grease slings out, road grit gets in, and the joint starts wearing fast.
Signs Your CV Axle Is Going
- Clicking or popping in turns. The classic sign β and usually louder on sharp turns or in parking lots.
- A torn or greasy boot. Look behind the front wheels for a split rubber boot or grease flung around the inside of the wheel.
- A clunk when accelerating. A worn inner joint can clunk when you give it gas.
- Vibration at speed. A failing axle can shake as it spins.
Why You Shouldn't Wait
A clicking CV joint can run for a while β but "a while" isn't forever. When an axle finally fails, you can lose drive power completely, often at the worst possible moment. A leaking boot caught early might just need a fresh axle. Left alone, it can damage the joint beyond saving and put you on the side of the road.
